Wedding Décor Ideas That Will Never Go Out of Trend

Choosing wedding decor may be a stressful task, especially if you’re concerned about how long it will last. While Instagram and Pinterest are fantastic sources of inspiration, they can also cause a ricochet effect in which the same trending ideas appear in reception after reception after reception—even if they aren’t always appropriate for the setting (this writer once witnessed a doughnut wall slowly melt in the desert heat) or authentic to the couple in question (the groom didn’t even like doughnuts).

So, what are the wedding décor trends that will never die? Vogue enlisted the help of prominent event planners—all of whom have worked on events featured in the magazine—to provide advice on everything from flowers to colour palettes to place settings. Many of them agreed. Same timeless themes (spoiler alert: almost all stated candles and handwritten calligraphy can’t go wrong).

Their thoughts are included below. And if you’re ever in question about a style of decor that isn’t covered here, here’s some sound advise from Bronson Van Wyck, dubbed the “Wizard of Oz” of party planning: “What is timeless at a wedding is the same thing that is timeless in your closet or in your home decoration.” “Yves Saint Laurent once stated, ‘fashions go, but style endures,” he says. “The best decorations, like the best clothes, tell your guests who you are without actually telling them who you are.”

“Nothing says elegance like a traditional Smythson invitation etched in black on pearl white.”

“A black ink engraved invitation on cream two-ply stock paper with each guest’s name in handwritten calligraphy can’t go wrong.”

Tablescapes and table settings

“Anything hand painted, from a different flower on each plate to the couple’s (or even their guests’) monogram.” Hand-painted accents are always unique and timeless.” -Cove, Stefanie

“Bespoke embroidery is certainly having a moment, but I don’t think it will fade very soon.” It’s a great way to personalise everything, even tablecloths and napkins. We only made napkins. with gorgeous and unique stitched velvet ribbons flowing throughout.” Candle centrepieces from Samantha Zaitz and Benjamin Rudin’s wedding by Stefanie Cove. “Candles, candles, and more candles.” They’re lovely, and their soft light makes guests appear lovely. They’re also reasonably priced. What could possibly be better than that? The connection we have between comfort and welcome on the one hand and the flicker of firelight on the other dates all the way back to our ancestors. We used almost three thousand for the Williamsburg party celebrating Vogue editor Chloe Malle’s wedding… and that was just in the foyer.”

“Classic wedding décor should be charming, with soft touches and flattering candlelight.” Fancy silver candelabra will always be fashionable—even in the future. It’s preferable if they’re mismatched pairings obtained from family.” -Reba Gardner

“Whether it’s a supper for two or a wedding for 300, candlelight creates an intimate ambience that is essential for any special occasion.” Nothing says “traditional romance” like a candlelight room.”
