The clothes are probably one of the easiest things to avoid putting in the trash, but people discard more than 11 million tons of textiles annually, which is approximately 66% of the total number of textiles produced in a year. There is no need for this. The next time you ask what to do with a pair of jeans that have a RIP, no longer fit, or just are not in style, think beyond the container for something more creative. Here are five ways to recycle your jeans to start.
1. Your unwanted denim can be turned into insulation.
Several years ago, we had a plumbing problem in our house. The resulting solution included the need to replace a bit of isolation damaged by water. By investigating the best most sustainable and least sustainable options, I found recycled denim insulation. Since finding this healthy alternative to the insulation of the fiberglass, I have donated any old denim that we can not reuse or reuse ourselves to the blue jeans, go green.
The blue jeans, the recycling of green denim takes all its worn denim and recycling it into isolation. By donating them, it is helping to keep the textile debris from our landfills and toxins from our surroundings.
2. Turn your denim into a pair of shorts.
This is probably the easiest way to reuse a pair of jeans. Even if it is not sewn, you can make long jeans in shorts. Get a couple of sharp scissors, find out where you want to cut, and then enjoy your new shorts. Remember the old saying, “Measure twice, and short once”. If you are a sewer (or good with a glue gun), take a look at this tutorial by craftsmanship and creativity for some adorable additions to cuts.
3. Upcycle your denim into a reusable bag.
One of my favorite forms of UPCYCLE DENIM is making reusable bags. You can use the bags as an adorable shape of packaging a gift, like a bag, and as a reusable grocery carrier, just to name a few. I also found this card creative phone loading bag. This is another project that could be done simply with a glue gun or, if you do not have one, a little craft glue.
4. Upcycle your denim into some sweet friendship bracelets.
One of my girl’s favorite projects is UPCYCLE material, including denim, in the friendship bracelets. They are able to use their creativity and make each bracelet a work of special art. First, collect supplies as fun buttons, embroidery thread and any other ornament you may have at hand. Then cut the denim in strips. Next is where the fun really begins. Let your kids use their imaginations to dream up some adorable ways to decorate their friendship bracelets. They could even begin by sketching out their ideas so you know how to help them make their vision a reality.
5. Make a craft supply holder with your unwanted jeans and some cans from the recycling bin.
This is a great idea for anyone who wants to organize their craft supplies in one place. You could convert it into a handmade supply support for children that includes washable markers, color pencils, safety scissors and glue sticks. Add an ASA and this could be an excellent way to bring craft supplies on the road with you.
