Dhanteras, which will be celebrated on 25th October’19 marks the beginning as the very first festival of Diwali week. Dhanteras is also known as Dhana Trayodashi or Dhanvantari Trayodashi. There are various stories related to the importance of this day in our culture. Some say that on this day, Goddess Laxmi came from the ocean of milk after Samundra Manthan was done by the devils and the Gods. And, for this reason, Laxmi Puja is done along with Lord Kuber.
It is also said that King Hima’s son was predicted to die because of a snake’s marriage on the fourth day of his marriage but his wife saved his life by keeping him awake and blocking the entrance with a heap of gold and silver ornaments. This is believed that buying metals like gold and silver on Dhanteras can prevent untimely and premature deaths in the house by praying to Yamraj by lighting lamps and Diyas for him.
Also, buying metallic ornaments like that of gold and silver brings fortune and prosperity to the buyer.
Diwali celebrations are less than a week away; decide what you will be wearing and buying as a good fortune on Dhanteras and bring happiness to your entire family on an auspicious day. And yes, don’t forget that you should not buy glass or aluminum items as they are not considered as a mark of good fortune on Dhanteras.
