The vaccination drive is currently at its peak. There are mixed responses in different regions owing to the side effects of the alternatives being used in India. Whatever be the case, the government is trying its best to upskill the whole procedure. There have been a lot of new announcements in the recent past. All of them are related to the welfare of society in some way or the other. In this blog, you will get to know about all the past and future steps taken in the same direction. Further developments are bound to happen. Read on to update yourself on the latest timeline. Most importantly, get vaccinated as soon as possible. (as per the eligibility criteria)
“The return on investment in global health is tremendous, and the biggest bang for the buck comes from vaccines. Vaccines are among the most successful and cost-effective health investments in history.”
First Round
The initial round included frontline workers and aged people. Many of them have taken their doses while a lot of eligible candidates are still pending. With much hue and cry regarding the efficiency and functioning of available vaccines, India is progressing at a slow pace. Meanwhile, it seems impractical to vaccinate the whole country with such a humongous population by the end of this year.
Present Condition
The supply chain is quiet compromised these days. A lot of guesses pertain to vaccine shortage and there is no reliable data as of now. With greater demand, the Serum Institute of India is keen on increasing production and meet the needs as much as possible. All the states have been recently allowed to purchase the vials as per their requirement directly from the companies.
Second Round
The next round allowed citizens above the age of 45 years to get there shots administered. Some of these were eligible prior to the aforementioned announcement due to health issues and other subsisting comorbidities. They are highly susceptible to the ravaging viral infection.
New Development
The latest announcement was made after careful observations last week. The youth is allowed to get the COVID vaccine from next month. Each and everyone aged above eighteen years will become automatically eligible from the 1st of May. The researches are less in number but this step is positive reinforcement for the youth. Once the process begins, things are expected to get clear with time.
“Without equity, pandemic battles will fail. Viruses will simply recirculate, and perhaps undergo mutations or changes that render vaccines useless, passing through the unprotected populations of the planet.”
