5 Effective Home-remedies to treat your acne

Natural skin treatments you can find in your own home are becoming more and more popular nowadays. Acne or pimples are common, but they leave behind marks, making skin appear dull and scarred. They are the worst nightmare every girl has. They not only ruin your face but also drive you crazy with constant discomfort and the urge of popping them. The most annoying thing about pimples is they tend to appear more when you expect them the less. It’s important that you cleanse, exfoliate and moisturise the skin and keep the pores clean and clear from make-up, dirt and oils to avoid acne.

Acne develops when pores become clogged or infected by bacteria. People start developing acne for the first time when they hit puberty and that’s basically because as you enter puberty, whether you’re male or female, you start producing a much larger amount of androgen hormones.

Androgen hormones are testosterone and dihydrotestosterone (DHT), and what these androgen hormones do is increase the size of your oil glands. If your oil glands are bigger, you’re producing more oil, your pores are more likely to get blocked and then bacteria that live on the skin’s surface can then act on this to create spots.

Over-the-counter and some prescription medications can zap pimples and help stop new breakouts but the bad news is that some acne products can cause side effects like redness, discoloration, or dryness, for this reason, some people prefer treating acne at home with natural solutions.

Hands-down the most common skin problem out there is of acne. It reportedly affects nearly 85% of the world population at some point in their lives or other. Medical treatment could be heavy on pocket and may also have dangerous side-effects. That’s why people tend to look for easy, natural home-remedies to treat it. Here are some ways to prevent and reduce acne at home.

Tree Tea Oil

Tea tree oil is an essential oil extracted from the leaves of a small tree native to Australia. It has long been touted as a safe and effective alternative treatment for acne. This can be used in dilution of a 1:8 ratio as tree tree oil tends to be very strong and irritant when applied undiluted. Always dilute the essential oil in a carrier oil first. 4- 5% tea tree oil formulation is ideal for the skin. It can be combined with an oil free, acne friendly moisturising gel.

Add a drop of tea tree oil to your regular cleanser. This will help prevent acne breakouts. Tea tree oil also works well to get rid of whiteheads and blackheads.

Green Tea

Using cool green tea bags on your skin might make it feel better and you feel refreshed. Green tea is said to have anti-inflammatory properties. Add two tablespoon of green tea leaves to a cup of water and allow them to steep for 10 minutes. Dip a cotton pad in the tea and apply it directly to the skin. Allow it to remain on the skin for 10 minutes.

Honey

Honey used to be used as a treatment for wounds for its antibacterial properties. You can use plain honey for your acne due to its soothing and moisturising properties which bring the inflammation down. Spot application for full face can be done. It is a natural antiseptic and can help heal acne scars. Dab a small amount of honey over the affected area and leave it for 30 minutes before rinsing it off.

Aloe- Vera

Aloe vera contains salicylic acid and Sulphur that help efficiently in bringing down the redness, pain and drying up the pus in the pimples, ultimately soothing the skin. With amazing burn-heal properties and ability to fight infection, Aloe vera is a great antidote for acne.

Extract the gel out of an aloe plant with a spoon, or you can also buy packaged aloe gel from medical stores. Just make sure that there are no artificial additions to it. Apply the gel on the scars to get quick relief. You can use it directly from your plant if you are not allergic to it but try spot application first.

Lemons

Lemons carry such great skin-lightening and disinfecting values that one simply cannot miss out on them. To reduce acne appearance on your face, dip a cotton ball in lime juice, and apply gently over the affected areas. When done, rinse off with some water. Do this for a couple of days and witness results.
